The ignition amplifier is often located on the air filter box and controls the ignition signal to the coil packs. Please note that this ignition amplifier is for the 150bhp models only. Not for the 180 or 225bhp models. To replace OE part number 4D0905351.

Sorted my problems with my mk4 Gti. Thought it was the coil packs but turned out to be the ignition amplifier. Easy to fit with just 2 screws.
